FAQs

Question: How old do I have to be to enter the competition?

Answer: The competition is open to children up to the age of 16. For further details, please visit the submission link to which Key Stage category to enter.

Question: I don’t live in the United Kingdom; can I still take part?

Answer: As the competition is only open to residents of the United Kingdom, unfortunately you cannot enter your writing to the competition. However, please feel free to use the resources, guides and other tips on our website to help you in your writing.

Question: My child has written the entry on paper. Can I post this to you?

Answer: As our selection process is conducted online, postal submissions are not accepted. If your child has written the entry by hand please type this onto a Word document to complete the submission.Writing by hand is an excellent way to develop writing and research shows it activates parts of the brain involved in thinking, memory and language, so please do not discourage this.

Question: I am a teacher at a school and have multiple pieces to submit. What’s the best way to do this?

Answer: When you visit our submission link, you are welcome to submit the entries via this page. However, if you would prefer a quicker method, please email us at mail@ymwa.org.uk or call us on 01159117222 and we’d be happy to send you a form to submit multiple entries together.

Question: I would like to arrange a workshop with you. What should I do?

Answer: We love to take the workshops around the UK. Give us a call on 0115 911 7222 or email us at mail@ymwa.org.uk to speak about how we can best deliver a workshop to meet the needs of your school or organisation.
