The Young Muslim Writers Awards’ Writer of the Year (WOTY) title is conferred to the individual entrant whose writing has stood out from the others. The winners of the eight categories are up for consideration for the WOTY prize. Judges have to select the entrant whose writing level is advanced beyond their age, and whose talent stands out from the other winners.
In December 2016, 13 year old Lamees Mohamed was selected as the Writer of the Year for her short story, Pit Stops.
About Lamees
Lamees’ favourite subjects in school are Art/Design Technology, English, Citizenship and Science. She has a range of creative interests including art, writing stories, exploring the English language, reading and baking. She also enjoys reading.
Her favourite books include Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Coraline by Neil Gaiman and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. She also ran for election on the Young People’s Council 2016. In the future Lamees would like to continue writing with the support of people around her and would like to publish her own book.
